When life give you lemons, make lemonade. Citrus Cat Cafe was inspired by taking the bitterness of life and making it sweet. After a breast cancer diagnosis disrupted life I found myself at a new crossroads. I stepped away from work for several months while going through treatment and when the time came to return I found myself reluctant.  I had a job I enjoyed, with great hours, good pay and worked alongside my sister (who also happens to be my bestie).  Yet I seemed to be stuck on paws.

Then, a casual stroll looking for a lunch spot on our last day of a vacation changed everything – we passed right by a cat cafe.  The heavens opened, angels sang, doves took flight into the air and bright light illuminated the store front.  Well not exactly but something very similar did indeed occur.  I turned to my daughter and said, ‘that’s it – I’m opening a cat cafe.’

As my chemo fuzz began to grow I started obsessively researching cat cafes and how to bring this mission to Louisiana. My husband and kids fortunately embraced this crazy cat dream and Citrus Cat Cafe came to fruition. As a lifelong animal lover this path couldn’t be more purrfect. There is a parallel between my story and all of our shelter cats. Life hasn’t gone exactly the way we planned but if you just hang in there you might end up in the lap of luxury.

So, you’re wondering what the heck is a cat cafe and isn’t mixing food with cats gross. Citrus Cat Cafe is a unique concept inviting cat lovers an opportunity to lounge with cats while grabbing a quick bite to eat and a beverage to sip. All cats are pulled from local shelters and eligible for adoption. We’re on a mission to save the world one cat at a time. And, yes we agree that mixing cats and food would be unsanitary – fortunately for all us clean freaks the cat lounge and cafe areas are completely separate.
